The challenge

  • Refurbish the hull in offshore environment
  • Avoid pollution to the sea
  • Restriction on number of personnel on board for the project (POB)
  • Limit the use of scaffolding
  • Limit the use of rope access work

The solution

The majority of the hull was stripped of the old light blue “Mærsk” paint down to the steel substrate by using Remotion’s closed-system hydroblasting robots.

In other areas, where the general condition of the hull was better, the same robotic systems was used for high pressure cleaning prior to painting.

After the surface was thoroughly prepared, we also successfully utilized robotics for multi-coat painting of larger areas of the Peregrino Hull.

The Benefits

Remotion’s closed-system hydro blasting robots ensures collection of the debris during the removal of old layers of paints preventing pollution to the sea.

Our painting robots also have  closed-system collecting  any overspray ensuring a fully environmentally friendly solution throughout the application.

By using Remotion’s closed-system hydro blasting robots, the need for scaffolding is eliminated and in-large also the use of rope access which in total reduce the POB.

Conclusion

By this full-scale project, painting a 350m-long FPSO Hull in situ, Beerenberg has again proved that Remotion’s surface treatment robotics deliver both quality and efficiency with a durability needed for these harsh offshore climatic conditions.

Use of robotics also add value in reducing exposure for personnel in hazardous conditions, reducing overall POB as well as protecting the environment.
