WUI drain plug Detecting Plug
Corrosion under insulation (CUI) causes billions of dollars in maintenance costs for oil and gas facility owners each year. The main cause of CUI is the presence of water under the insulation, but inspection for water and corrosion is expensive and often performed with low accuracy.
The Benarx WUI Drain Detection Plug is a drain plug designed to indicate the presence of water inside the insulation, to help facility owners and maintenance planners perform more precise inspection work for damp insulation and CUI. The WUI Drain Detection plug is equipped with a bright yellow indicator part that pops out if liquid water flows through the plug over a period of a few days.
The plug is a tool that helps identify areas for inspection and thus enables more precise risk-based CUI inspection that saves costs and time.
Application
Benarx CUI Drain Detection Plug can be used for all insulation systems up to 180°C, but it cannot be used on cold insulation if installing the plug means penetrating the vapor barrier. Furthermore, installation on fire insulation systems requires that the Benarx WUI Drain Detection Plug be installed in combination with Benarx Fire Plugs tested for integrity in fire.
The short version of the plug is recommended for fiber-based insulation materials, while the long version of the plug is more suitable for rigid and closed-cell insulation materials.
- Made of durable polyaramid materials.
- Indicates after 1-3 days of continuous or intermittent water drainage.
- Does not indicate as a result of mist or humid climate; free-flowing water must drain out through the plug for the indication to occur.
- Once indicated, the product can be dried out and reused.
- Can be retrofitted onto existing insulation, as well as being installed during the installation of new insulation.
