The project was part of the planned maintenance programme for the quay. The scope included the repair of local concrete damage and exposed reinforcement to ensure continued robustness, operational reliability, and longevity.

Facility remained operational during execution

The project was carried out while the quay remained in normal operation, placing high demands on planning, flexibility, and coordination. The work was also affected by the weather conditions at the exposed site.

Maintaining existing infrastructure is often both the most sustainable and the most cost-effective option. By rehabilitating instead of rebuilding, we can extend the expected service life of the facility while ensuring safe operations for many years to come,” says Mats Emil Mossefin, Project Manager at Linjebygg.

Extended service life for the quay

To remove damaged concrete, Linjebygg used ultra-high-pressure water jetting (UHPWJ), an effective method for cleaning and preparing damaged surfaces. New concrete was then spray-applied to protect the reinforcement from deterioration caused by the harsh operating environment.

The project included:

  • Rehabilitation of 150-200 m² of concrete surfaces
  • Placement of 4-5 tonnes of new concrete
  • Extension of the expected service life of the quay facility

Through strong technical expertise and a focus on safe execution, Linjebygg delivers sustainable rehabilitation solutions that help preserve existing infrastructure and reduce the need for new construction.
